First year students

Congratulations, and welcome to University.

If all goes well you’re going to be here for at least three years.  One piece of advice we can guarantee you is that getting out there and making friends at university will be the best decision you'll ever make. Personally, it has helped us to put in less effort by working together to pass units, and we've had the time of our lives doing so.

The 2019 committee can all agree that the reason we became a part of Science Union was because their events led us to meet so many new and diverse people, and above that, have an amazing time with them - this stands for events run by other clubs as well.

It is also important to remember that everyone is in a similar boat to you as they come to university. Everyone is entering a brand new world. Older students have been through the same things that you are going through, and can give you some advice. Whether that is which units are useful, what parties are the most fun, or how to best fake an illness to get an extension, we'd be happy to help. We’ve all been there. It's also worth mentioning that it's a good idea getting out there and meeting our fantastic committee - SU prides ourselves on running events in which everyone feels welcome to come to, so you're sure to fit right in.

This is what we have organised specifically for First Year students for 2019:

In saying this, we run plenty more events for students of all years that we would love to see you at! You can find them (as they're released) here.

If you want to stay in touch with what we are organising for all Science Students follow our Instagram (@scienceunion), Facebook (UWA Science Union), Snapchat (uwascienceunion), via this website, or have a peek at our noticeboard in Guild Village.  Feel free to also send us a message if you have any questions!

We look forward to seeing you around, and getting involved with all of the fun activities that UWA, and particularly Science Union, has to offer!

PS. Make sure you come see us at our stall on O-DAY or at Club Carnival to become a member of Science Union! For just $5, you get a $5 discount for every ticket you buy to our events (and a $10 discount for our ball!!). This means that all you have to do is come to two awesome events to be saving money! As first years, we were all lured in by the quiz nights and parties (which you should come to for the time of your lives), however, along your rollercoaster journey that is your degree, you may need to deal with issues in your classes or require a postponed exam due to illness, the stress of your imminent exams may just get too much for you, and you will all soon realise that at the end of your degree you somehow need to find a job. At Science Union, our Education, Welfare and External Affairs portfolios work just as hard as the Social portfolio to help you with said bumps along your rollercoaster ride. For many of us, becoming a member of Science Union was the best decision of our university lives. We hope to see as many of you freshers down at our stall, we can't wait to meet you all and welcome you into our family.

Missed O-DAY and Club Carnival? Not an issue! Become a member here :)
