The Education Portfolio

ABOUT US

The Education portfolio aims to give students a quality education and improve research and technical skills by presenting a variety of study nights, workshops, and informative events throughout each semester. Throughout the academic year, we continuously work alongside the Faculty of Science and UWA Guild Education Council, along with several other boards at the University, to provide workshops and events that help students achieve their academic best.

What events do we run?

STUDY NIGHTS

Our study nights are crucial to not only our mission to help students on their academic journey throughout their time at UWA, but also engaging with first-year students, by helping them find their feet in the new study structure associated with University. These study nights are run in collaboration with our associated science clubs, including the Zoology Club, The University Physics Club, Physical Education Students Association, Chemistry and Biology Club, and Psychology society; meaning that these nights have a broad outreach and outstanding engagement with students across campus. Moreover, the endorsement of these events by the Education Council of the UWA Guild, ensures they are run to the highest standard, with industry level tutors and professionals.

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

Another annual collaboration with the UWA Guild, National science weeks sees Science Union run events throughout the week, for participation from all students. A weeklong effort, the Education portfolio runs interactive experiments, study and research workshops, and fun science games; National Science week is a keystone in our calendar in terms of engaging with new students and University staff. Our STEM workshops working with high school students have improved our accessibility and visibility to these potential new members, while also offering them insight into university life and educational advice.

By representing students to both the Faculty of Science and the UWA Student Guild, we ensure that students' rights are upheld, quality education is provided and student feedback is heard. The Science Union holds two seats on the Guild Education Council which meets monthly to deal with issues ranging from base funding and student support all the way through to education standards and curricula.

If you are experiencing any issues that require attention from Science Union, please do not hesitate to contact our Education Vice-President, Keegan Mitchell, at: su-vp-ed@guild.uwa.edu.au
